life at twelve months

Initially, the main purpose of this blog was to capture the first year of my little's life and turn it into a baby book. I am not entirely sure I am going to be as diligent a blogger (now that my bean is thirteen months as of today) as so many others are out there, but I have come to terms with that; it is however, a nice place to jot down notes of the little one's happenings. One day I will return to these notes, and scrapbook them all. (As soon as I learn to scrapbook, and more importantly find the time.)

That being said, my little Elle is such a little girl now; girl being the operative word...

My Dearest Elle,

You have a favorite color. It is not a color I had originally anticipated you falling in love with, but there is no doubt you prefer it above all others. It is orange. Tangerine, coral, carrot, pumpkin, doesn't matter, you love them all. This became clear when you began digging through the laundry to pick out and all garments belonging to the orange family, and then refuse to give them up. (Not to mention, your favorite toys sport the same cheery shade as well.)

You respond to questions with "yes." Granted, sometimes it is not exactly appropriate, but we still haven't figured out how you managed to know the perfect time to respond in this way.

You brush your teeth (haphazardly of course).

You know exactly how to use a q-tip, but Mama won't let you do so. (Imagine my surprise when I look up and you are correctly inserting it into your ear and delicately twisting it. Please stop being in such a hurry to grow up!)

You love to open and shut doors.

You adore winking at your mama. Half the time it is a wink, the other half, more of a blink; either way, it is undeniably cute.

You know how to put on makeup, e.g., powder goes on the face, mascara on the eyes, etc. but you will not being wearing any of it until your 21st birthday (let Mama be optimistic). Luckily, you haven't mastered opening the mascara tube just yet.

You are 22 pounds of adorable and are still in size three diapers.

You are quite the girlie girl. You cannot stand sticky fingers and will proceed to wipe them clean on anything and everything you can find, most commonly, the woman that birthed you.

You love most kinds of foods.

You say: Mama, Dada, baby, yes, fat (Mama's least favorite), what's this (us this), what's that (us that), baba, uh oh, and Daddy swears one time you said, puppy. You add more words to your vocabulary on a regular basis.

No longer do tears stream down your face when we lie you down for night-night. You wake me each morning with a short and to the point "Ah" and Mama rushes in for your morning hug.

You can open anything and everything (as long as it is not an issue of strength, which you actually have an abnormal amount of.) It is actually quite fascinating to watch you work.

You respond appropriately when asked, come here and can I have that?

You are running.

You are sneaky.

And yesterday...

You were our perfect little twelve-month-old. ("were" only because you are now officially thirteen months.)
